Snack Shack: the Heart of Woodlawn Little League

The heart and soul of Woodlawn Little League is the "Snack Shack" and the many people who volunteer inside. These volunteers are dedicated to making WLL a better place for our community.

Many years ago, a very wise Woodlawn Little League patron decided that baseball really wasn’t any good to watch without a hot dog and a coke, so he took it upon himself to begin construction on what Woodlawn Little League now calls “The Snack Shack."

The Snack Shack is a major part of the Woodlawn little league experience. On the outside it may look just like an ordinary concession stand, but it is far more than that to the families of Woodlawn. To many parents at Woodlawn, the Snack Shack is a wonderful convenience that offers the busy and overwhelmed parents a place where they can get their children a not so healthy, but oh so yummy dinner! It is also a place where eager and excited children get to try their first snow cone, drink Gatorade with abandon, and spend the bulk of their allowance on Airheads, popcorn and cotton candy. It offers hats, seat cushions, car magnets and shirts along with offering Woodlawn Little League fans their favorite ballpark foods. It is the heart and soul of Woodlawn, and often has a command center type atmosphere where everyone who is involved feels that they are part of something truly special.

The “Snack Shack” is run entirely by volunteers and is managed this year by Brandi McConnon, wife of AAA Dodgers coach, Kerry McConnon. Some of the “Snack Shack’s” past managers have been Erica Morin, Renee Coakley and Cindy Peverall, just to name a few. These women took on the task of ordering, stocking, managing and running the entire operation of the Snack Shack during the Woodlawn Little League season. They did this all as volunteers, on their own time, and all for the betterment of Woodlawn Little League. The wonderful thing about the Snack Shack is how it is often full of people who truly do want to make Woodlawn Little League better; I applaud these ladies and the many other men and women who have spent many hours selling chili dogs and nachos to the people of Woodlawn Little League.

When our kids are grown and think back to their days at Woodlawn Little League, I doubt they will remember every game or every play, but I am certain they will remember the good times they had with their friends, and I bet you a pack of Big League Chew that the Snack Shack will be somewhere in those memories.

Volunteer today, and be a part of something special!
