Carry the Load was founded last year by Naval Academy graduate and former Navy SEAL Clint Bruce to bring meaning back to Memorial Day. The organization's mission is to "carry" and honor the contribution of active duty and veteran service members, first responders and surviving families.

The relay began May 1 in West Point, N.Y. and will finish in Dallas, Texas on May 27 at 3:48 p.m., as the Carry the Load event in Dallas begins. The relay is divided into 350 five-mile segments. All contributions raised during the relay will benefit nonprofits including the Snowball Express, Yellow Ribbon Fund and RWB Team.
