Good Shepherd Catholic Church Renovations Progress

Church sanctuary expected to open in late July.

Construction at has been progressing over the last couple of months.

The renovation project is now in its eighth week, and construction crews have completed the vast majority of demolition that was required and are working on building, framing, and installing walls, replacing the roof, and have completed most of the insulation work, parish administrator Claudia Fiebig told Patch. Crews are in the process of installing a sprinkler system throughout the building “to improve the safety of the facility,” Fiebig said.

The sanctuary is in the process of undergoing renovations including a new audio/visual system, safety upgrades, and a choir instrument storage system. Classrooms will get a facelift with new carpeting and lighting and a fresh coat of paint. Later this summer, Creedon Hall will get new restrooms, a kitchen expansion, sound-proof dividers, safety upgrades, and new flooring, among other upgrades.

Due to the renovation of the church itself, services have been held in Creedon Hall, where they were originally held before the sanctuary was constructed in 1985.

Fiebig said they hope to resume Mass in the sanctuary in late July. The church expects the classrooms to open in September and the kitchen to open in time for the International Festival, held on Labor Day weekend.

The church is hoping to have the work done by Christmas.

“It’s a moving target based on the realities of construction,” Fiebig said.

The church kicked off its capital campaign in January. Since then, it has exceeded its fundraising goal of $3.5 million dollars to fund the renovations. While the church is no longer in an active fundraising phase, donations and memorial gifts will always be accepted.

“Our parishioners have been great,” Fiebig remarked. “They’ve really pulled together.”

Once construction moves to Creedon Hall, it will have an impact on this year’s International Festival.

“There will be no White Elephant this year because the sale is usually held in Creedon Hall,” said communications team member Rosie Driscoll. “All the more reason for people to buy raffle tickets to support Shepherd’s Gate.”
