Whiz Kids: Cub Scouts and Brownies Team Up To Make a Difference

Local cub scouts and Brownies participate in community cleanup activity

Patch's Whiz Kids of the Week are: Cub Scout Pack 1503 and Girl Scout Troop 657.

Approximately 20 boys and their families from Washington Mill Elementary School’s Cub Scout Pack 1503, along with several Brownies from Girl Scout Troop 657, participated in a MVCCA neighborhood cleanup activity at Washington Mill Park earlier this month.

The cleanup event not only helped the scouts learn about caring for the environment, but also helps them work toward receiving their “Leave No Trace” Award patch.

“Leave No Trace” is a plan that encourages people to be more concerned about their environment and to help them protect it for future generations.

The scouts, as well as many of their parents and siblings, collected approximately six bags of trash along the trail in about two hours.

Following the cleanup, the scouts also learned from Cub Scout Pack Master Chris Pegher about many of the “Leave No Trace” guidelines, including: planning ahead, sticking to trails, managing pets, leaving what you find, respecting other visitors and trashing your trash.
