Christmas at Mount Vernon, Tree Lighting Ceremony, Turkey Trot and More Events this Week

Hannukah begins the evening of Nov. 27. Alexandria city offices will be closed Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday.  

Christmas programs at Mount Vernon begin on Friday. Go on a candlelight tour of the mansion and listen to Christmas carols. See a full schedule of events online. 

The city of Alexandria’s annual tree lighting ceremony takes place at 6 p.m. Friday at Market Square on 301 King St. Admission is free.

Are you shopping locally on Black Friday? You can get free parking at city of Alexandria-owned parking lots, garages, and meters. 

If you want to preemptively burn off some of those calories from your Thanksgiving dinner, the Alexandria Turkey Trot is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday starting at the George Washington Middle School on 1005 Moun Vernon Avenue.

If you are going to be hitting the mall on Black Friday, the Fairfax County Park Authority is offering some special children’s programs where you can drop off your children while you shop. The events are at the Spring Hill RECenter and the Pinecrest Golf Course. Register online and find out more information.
