It could cost Americans 20 percent more to get their bacon fixes as a deadline virus sweeps through the nation's hog barns. (Patch file photo)

"The pork industry has committed $ 1.7 million to research how the virus....spread so quicklyRead More after it was reported in the nation's top pork-producing states..." Gimme a hundred bucks, i'll tell ya how. >>> IT'S BECAUSE YOU PUT THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF PIGS TOGETHER IN SMALLISH SPACES VERY CLOSE TOGETHER AND ''LIVING'' IN UNBELIEVABLY FILTHY CONDITIONS !!! <<< Oh, DAMN, i shoulda waited for someone to offer me that hundred....

Glad I am a vegetarian. The crap they inject the animals with, hormones, antibiotics, vaccinations,Read More and the the crap these animals are eating have all have all been treated with toxic pesticides, and other chemicals. You are what you eat.

Does Instacart hold a membership at COSTCO or do they use the customers membership number to makeRead More purchases . It would seem that customers could avoid joining COSTCO and thus avoid membership fees with Instacart being a proxy membership card holder. Probably balances out since Instacart charges a service fee.
Mary Ann Barton (Editor) March 10, 2014 at 09:38 am
Interesting question! Store membership is NOT required, according to this article:Read More http://goo.gl/48otuJ; also, their prices can apparently be more or less than the grocery store prices.
Safeway could be bought. (Patch file photo.)
Fairfax Watcher March 7, 2014 at 03:39 pm
WELL...............no worries for those Kroger lovers or haters as SAFEWAY went to Albertson'sRead More owner, CERBERUS. CERBERUS plans on reforming Safeway stores to look/feel like Trader Joe's.

It's always that "evil Walmart" with Lefties...
Dave Jennings March 9, 2014 at 08:15 pm
Cerberus will probably close at least half the chain as most equity firms are apt to do in order toRead More up profit and create a stream of returns that will up their chances of passing it off to someone else in a few years.

Yes, an investment in economic development. MD & P.G. Co. are investing in National HarborRead More including a gambling casino attraction and other amenities along with the creative investment strategy listed here in this article. Old Town has looked ahead to capitalize on the attractions on the other side of the river by increasing hotel space and working with National Harbor to get visitors to use Old Town as a destination during their stay across the river. Fairfax County across from National Harbor on the US Route 1 or Richmond Highway corridor seemingly anticipates gamblers in need of fast and easy loans given the proliferation of Car Title Loan Businesses popping up like mushrooms. Can't imagine the VA legislature concerning itself with much more than bills that seek to limit human rights, abortion rights, economic rights, health care rights, environmental rights, voter rights or any other progressive effort that give more rights to citizens. Just another bass ackward state of the old Confederacy that can't fully acknowledge modernity.

This place had some good food but it always amazed me just how terrible their Chili Rellenos were.Read More The drinks were way over priced as well. Put in an Uncle Julio's please!
Wildermann January 25, 2014 at 04:46 pm
Nothing special at this cookie cutter, Mexican chain restaurant. Not surprised they are moving on.Read More Mount Vernon and Alexandria have numerous one of a kind, authentic Mexican and Latin food options that are a great value with some great tasting dishes. Pillars near the Huntington Metro Station has great food made to order as does Pollo Ranchero near Kings Crossing. You may wait a few minutes longer for the preparation but the taste and quality are worth it. Also prefer to support a locally owned family enterprise than chains.

My son will miss Chevy's the most. Since he is only 4 y/o he doesn't really have an educated pallet,Read More but he always loved the corn cake. He actually cried for 10 minutes when we tried to go for dinner after they had closed. I have to agree with some of the comments above though. A few times we received queso that was just to salty to eat! I could feel by blood pressure rising! Their normal (male) bartender was just strange! We tried ordering drinks several times and they ALWAYS were terrible when he made them. Whenever he wasn't tending bar, it was fine, but he seemed the be the main bartender. Too bad! It would be wonderful to have Guapo's or Uncle Julio's take that location, but in the mean time we go to El Paso, at the Cooper Road location. They have very good and authentic Mexican food. They are a small family owned restaurant which we like to support as well, just like Guapo's!
On Friday, Diamond told fans on Facebook that he's decided to leave the Florida radio gig at 101.5-FM and return to the Washington DC area, where his family lives.
Meegan White January 20, 2014 at 11:30 am
Oh please no. He was the bane of my existence on the radio. His tired schtick and patronizingRead More attitudes toward women did not reflect the current demographic of the DC Metro area. His departure was long overdue.

Francis Soyer: Point of information if you will. When one is going to install the new LED light bulbRead More which would be the preferred choice? The MiracleLED Un-Edison 60W Equivalent Frost or the Samsung A19 60-Watt Warm White. From the knowlege you demonstrated above I thought I would ask an expert.
Francis Soyer January 30, 2014 at 10:27 am
Vincent - Honestly I'm not too familiar with either product. Neither is an "industryRead More standard" name brand. Samsung is obviously know for their electronics, I don't know if they are actually manufacturing their LED's or using somebody else's, but Samsung generally has good products. MiracleLED, unknown??? However I did a quick search on both. Samsung: 10.8 watts, 810 lumens, 27,000k, 15,000 hrs, 130 degree beam angle. MiracleLED: 5 watts, 500 lumens, 27,000k, 30,000 hrs, they claim "360 degree lighting" but do not list an actual beam angle, but it would certainly be much greater then the 130 on the Samsung. I would look at application first. Can you see the bulb in the fixture you are putting it in? If so the Samsung's heat sink is very visible and if it were in a glass fixture that I could clearly see the bulb I wouldn't want to see the Samsung bulb, I would pick the MiracleLED even though just by first appearance the Samsung looks like it is made better. I think the only application I would use the Samsung would be in a can light as the light output is more directional especially if I needed more light as the Samsung puts out 60% more light. Both seem to be priced at about $16 each. The more recognized LED name brands are Cree & Nochia, also, GE, Phillips & Sylvania make them as well. I like the "Cree 60W equivalent soft white (2700K) A19 dimmable LED light bulb", sold at Home Depot & Lowes.

Just another Obamanation. A disgusting president.
Stephen D. Clark January 18, 2014 at 11:03 am
Baloney. The "disgusting" president was the one who falsely alleged a threat to theRead More national security of the United States in order to dishonestly justify the Invasion of Iraq, which condemned 4,486 American armed forces members (http://icasualties.org/) to futile deaths and sparked a conflagration that has consumed the lives of what has been scientifically estimated as well over a million Iraqis (http://www.globalresearch.ca/new-analysis-confirms-1-million-iraq-casualties/7950).

don't expect employers to call you back. most managers are busy and they can forget things. callRead More them a few days after the interview. good news is their are jobs... if you want to work retail for 8 bucks/hour. who can live on that? hard to not take it personally. I applied for a driver at pizza hut... was turned down via email, no meeting, no interview... I have lots of work experience, no criminal record, no accidents or points... no drug issues... how can they turn me down based on a resume and email? my age I'm guessing.

Jamie, I completely support spending tax payer dollars on audits! It is a small price to pay toRead More ensure that the Americans are not getting robbed via acts of fraud. I work in government, at the state level. I personally know of fraudulent hiring practices that have occurred within our agency, including someone stacking the deck by having two family members of a job applicant seated on a job interview panel. That is blatant corruption. Thank God for "snitches"! Such corruption is even more likely where profit is involved, thus the reported misuse of H1b visas. Audits to prevent fraud and corruption are needed. Yes, they cost, but in the long run, it is money well spent.
