Construction on a 92-room, four-story Towne Place Suites by Marriott hotel will begin this year.
Construction on the Towne Place Suites by Marriott in Mount Vernon will commence this year, after more than a year of planning and acquiring permits. The 92-room, four-story hotel, will be located at 8668 Richmond Highway. The building will be LEED Silver certified and include highway frontage improvements. The developer has stated that it is prepared to add a northbound turn lane if VDOT requires it. Baywood submitted an application to rezone the property to allow the project to proceed, and the rezoning was approved by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in July 2012, according to the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation. The Mount Vernon Council of Citizens Associations Planning and Zoning Committee passed a resolution at its Tuesday meeting not to oppose the construction of Baywood Hotel in Mount Vernon. The 92-room, four-story hotel, to be located at 8668 Richmond Highway, will be LEED Silver certified and include highway frontage improvements. A representative gave a presentation on the proposed rezoning from C-6 to C-8 with a special exception to build the hotel. Representatives from Belle Haven Towers and Baywood Hotels will deliever presentations at the MVCCA Planning and Zoning Committee meeting Monday night. Belle Haven Towers The owner of Belle Haven Towers, located at 6043 Richmond Highway, is seeking the committee’s comments and concerns on a preliminary plan to construct a fourth building where a parking lot currently stands. The project proposes a five-story building containing 145 multi-family units that will be located southeast of the buildings on the property.
