Speak Out: Is the Storm Drainage Bond Worth It?

Some people have recently taken to the Web to express some of their concerns about the bond referendum on this year’s ballot.

On Nov. 6, we’ll all head to our polling stations and vote on our next president and local issues that directly affect us, our friends and our families. In May, the Board of Supervisors voted to offer a $30 million bond referendum on the ballot this November. The bond will fund a levee to stop repeated severe flooding in Huntington. Voters will decide whether to approve the bond for flood protection for the Huntington area. Although many Huntington residents are in full support of the bond — including members of the Huntington Community Association — there are some who are not completely convinced. Mount Vernon Patch USDA Under Secretary of Marketing and Regulatory Programs Ed Avalos visited the Arcadia Mobile Market at South County Center Thursday to learn more about the program. Former Mount Vernon District Planning Commissioner Col. John Byers, 85, passed away at home surrounded by family on Sunday. Byers is credited with laying the groundwork for Route 1 revitalization. County Takes Input on $63 Million Park Bond Allocation

Fairfax County will use money for new facilities, renovations and expansion.

As the Fairfax County Park Authority Board prepares for the possibility voters approve a $63 million park bond this November, members are gathering input from residents on potential projects and improvements that should benefit from the money. During an approximately two-hour public input meeting Monday, more than a dozen advocates came before the Fairfax County Park Authority Board and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority to promote their groups. In May, the Board of Supervisors voted to put a $75 million park bond referendum to voters Nov. 6. FCPS Requesting $252.75 Million in Bond Referendum

Passage would add to the $232.58 million approved by voters in 2009.

Fairfax County voters are faced with a $252.75 million dollar decision.  Included on the Nov. 8 general election ballot is a school bond referendum to fund Fairfax County Public School's 2012-16 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Each year Fairfax County Public Schools develops a five-year CIP to address future facility needs, including renovations of existing facilities and building of new facilities.  According to Denise James, director of Facilities Planning Services for FCPS, unfinished projects from previous CIP’s are carried over into the new one. “The CIP includes a cash flow of expenditures on projections over the next five years, and then anticipates expenditures in the 'out years' – i.e., over the subsequent 6-10 year period, for…
