Mount Vernon Library Construction May Cause Traffic Snarl

Traffic may be stopped occasionally on Mount Vernon Memorial Highway starting Monday.

There will be construction-related traffic stoppages along northbound Mount Vernon Memorial Highway starting Monday morning. Construction crews will be boring an underground sewer pipe along the south side of the road from the emergency vehicle exit from the Mount Vernon Library to a sewer manhole cover across from Cunningham Drive. Although the boring itself will not directly affect traffic, there will be three areas along the route where equipment will need to enter the woods, dig a boring pit and clean out, which necessitates the traffic stoppages, according to the Mount Vernon Estate. Construction on GW Parkway Begins Tuesday

Temporary crosswalk repairs will be made this week.

The National Park Service will be making temporary repairs beginning Tuesday to the brick crosswalk at the four-way intersection of the George Washington Parkway and the  northbound and southbound Mount Vernon Memorial Highway. Crews will remove the cracked and broken bricks, replace the sand base, and install new bricks. The work will take place in three phases, and there will be partial closures of the intersection as each section is being repaired. There will be flagmen to direct traffic around the repair area, which may cause some traffic delays.
