Mount Vernon to Launch New Food Walking Tour

"Dinner for the Washingtons" showcases food, hospitality, and dining at Mount Vernon.

Are you curious what George Washington ate for dinner? The Mount Vernon Estate's Dinner for the Washingtons walking tour goes behind the scenes to find out how food was prepared and served during the late 18th century. The one-hour walking tour kicks off March 31 and takes an in-depth look at different locations around the Estate, including the basement cellar. The tour concludes in Mount Vernon’s greenhouse with a toast to Washington and a sample of food based on an 18th century recipe. In honor of the centennial anniversary of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, visitors who participate in the Dinner for the Washingtons walking tour will receive a taste of cherry punch, adapted from Martha Washington’s recipe, through April 22.  This …
