The Graduation Speech

A message for the class of 2012.

Dear Graduates: I am honored to be your keynote speaker today at Mount Potomac High School.  You are all about to embark on a fantastic journey filled with incredible opportunities and… (The speaker hesitates, then rips up his speech in frustration). I’m sorry, kids. I can’t feed you this line of crap. The bottom line is that you are all screwed. I am going to assume that most of you will be going to some kind of college.  Now, a few of you might get a scholarship because you are some all-star bocci ball player or your ancestors are from Guam.  But for most of you, when you graduate four or five years from now you will probably owe some company in Indiana about $50,000 that you borrowed for tuition, payable in convenient monthly …

The speechifier is a raving, lunatic Liberal. All those problems he listed are directly related to the Ohbongo Administration, but he never mentions that. He should have given them some hope by encouraging them to vote Ohbongo out of office!   more ›

MVHS Honor Grad Q&A: Kaitlyn Schneider

Honor grad enjoys horseback riding, crew and science.

Mount Vernon High School honor grad Kaitlyn Schneider, 18, will attend Virginia Tech and plans to major in chemical engineering. Her extracurricular activities include president of the Science Honor Society, National Honor Society treasurer, crew team member and horseback riding. Schneider will graduate with a 4.2 GPA and delivered a speech to her class at her graduation ceremony Friday afternoon.  What made you pick Virginia Tech? I picked it because of the Hokie spirit. They have a great sense of community and a good engineering program. What is the basis of your graduation speech? The speech is based on a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson. MVHS Honor Grad Q&A: Eugene Coleman III

Coleman will attend West Point this fall.

Mount Vernon High School honor grad Eugene Coleman III, 18, will be attending West Point. Coleman plans on majoring in systems engineering and economics. He chose West Point because he wants to become an Army officer. Coleman received an MVCCA Student Volunteer of the Year award in April. He also served as the Student Representative to the FCPS School Board during the 2011-2012 school year. His hobbies include working out, hanging out with friends, and going to the movies. What was the inspiration behind your speech? The inspiration behind my speech was the a culmination of the friends I've made and the experiences I've had while at Mount Vernon. How long did it take you to write your speech?
