Local Poet Pens Observations in New Book

Poet Ian Roberts talks about his life experiences in his new poetry collection.

Hollin Hills resident Ian Roberts brings together the many pieces of his long life in a new poetry book titled “Figments and Fragments.” The son of a scoutmaster and a teacher, he has an affinity for the outdoors. He was born in 1933 in West Yorkshire, on the edge of the Yorkshire hills. He fondly remembers his early years as happy ones, even though World War II began when he was seven. In “Figments and Fragments,” Roberts pulls into poems his experiences, then writes in prose commentaries detailing his observations. The pairing of poem and observation is often so seamless that the reader is sometimes unaware that the poem has ended, so poetic are the observations. “I think what I have done is to record my sense of excitement about the …
