The Inova Governance Board recently approved a new addition to the emergency department at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. The 21,000 square-foot addition will have 30 treatment bays, five fast-track bays, CT and digital X-Rays, and a modern HVAC system, according to a news release sent out Tueday by the hospital. The addition will also create a new emergency department entrance that will separate emergency patient flow from other patient and visitor traffic. “This is an exciting announcement for the Mount Vernon community, because it represents the creation of an emergency department that fully meets the needs of this growing community – not only today, but also into the future,” Inova CEO Knox Singleton said in a release. “Our hospital …

Inova Blood Donor Services has issued a call for eligible blood donors to visit their local blood center or mobile blood drive to donate blood and/or platelets as soon as possible. A $43 million expansion to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital will add a patient tower and two operating rooms.
Inova leaders broke ground last Friday on a $43 million planned expansion to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. Inova Mount Vernon Hospital already houses 237 patient beds and this expansion will create another patient tower and two operating rooms. Construction is set to begin this summer. The new tower will add rooms to the Inova Rehabilitation Center. Twenty private rooms will be built and the 17 already-existing rooms will be redesigned. The Inova Joint Replacement Center will also gain 20 new private rooms and their previous 28 rooms will also be converted into private rooms. Expansion should be completed in three years.
Construction crews are busy installing infrastructure for two new general operating rooms as part of a $43.6 million expansion at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. Last year, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the expansion. Inova Mount Vernon has subsequently received approval from state regulators. The expansion includes a new medical surgical patient tower and the two operating rooms. The operating rooms will largely be used for joint replacement services. The construction is to be carried out in multiple phases. In June, the hospital will hold a formal groundbreaking on construction of the new tower, which will include three additional patient floors atop an existing two-story structure.
