D.C. Nightclub Closed After Fatal Shooting of Mount Vernon Man

A Shaw nightclub was closed after the fatal shooting of a Mount Vernon man Saturday night.

A D.C. nightclub and adjacent restaurant in the Shaw neighborhood were ordered closed for four days after a man was fatally shot following a dispute inside the club Saturday.  D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier ordered 1920 DC and Asefu's restaurant closed for four days, labeling them a threat to public safety after Saturday's shooting, The Washington Post reports. The proprietors of 1920 DC and Asefu’s Restaurant, which are jointly owned, can request a public hearing to regain their liquor license after the order expires and the District’s alcohol regulatory board completes its investigation later this week, according to the Post. Police: Mount Vernon Resident Joseph Hardin Killed in D.C. Shooting

Police arrest suspect Cedric Spicer in connection with fatal shooting.

Mount Vernon resident Joseph Hardin, 30, was killed Saturday at about 1:15 a.m. in a shooting outside a nightclub in the 1900 block of Ninth Street NW, according to Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department. Detectives from the police department's Homicide Branch arrested and charged suspect Cedric Spicer in connection with the shooting, according to a news release. On Saturday at 1:16 a.m., MPD Third District police responded to the scene to a report of a shooting. Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman, said Hardin and Spicer got into some kind of dispute inside 1920 DC, a nightclub and lounge a few blocks from the Howard University campus in an area known for nightlife, according to a report by WJLA.
