Mount Vernon High School Basketball Stars Celebrate Commitment on NCAA Signing Day

Seniors Taylor Dunham, Kelly Loftus, and Tiffany Webster will play basketball in college next year.

Mount Vernon High School basketball players Taylor Dunham, Kelly Loftus, and Tiffany Webster gathered Wednesday in the Michael Skinner field house to celebrate their commitments to play basketball in college next year. Dunham, Loftus, and Webster have played basketball together since they were 10 years old. Seven years later, they have made great strides in the sport and have been named captains of the Lady Majors basketball team their senior year. “They’ve grown together and created a good friendship,” Lisa Webster remarked. “They work together on and off the court. The younger girls rely on them.” Loftus will play for Hofstra University on Long Island. Loftus led the Majors in one of its most successful seasons during her junior year. …

Mount Vernon's Sharp Shooter

Junior basketball phenomenon Kelly Loftus had a remarkable junior season.

At seven years old, Mount Vernon High School junior Kelly Loftus played her first game of basketball on the court her father built behind the family home. It was on that court that Loftus, her sister Devin and her father Tom poured large amounts of sweat and logged countless hours perfecting the basketball skills that would earn her state and regional accolades years later. Basketball has always been a part of the family. “My dad first taught me basketball; he’s always loved it,” said the Mount Vernon sharp shooter. “We had a basketball court in the backyard, and we’d go out there and he’d teach me how to shoot. I just ended up loving it. It’s just a family thing. My whole family loves it.” Loftus wrapped up her junior campaign in February…
