Mount Vernon High School to Host Holiday Tournament

The 38th annual basketball tournament kicks off Dec. 27.

Mount Vernon High School will host its 38th annual holiday basketball tournament starting Thursday. Eight teams from schools across the D.C. metropolitan area will participate in this year's tournament, including Oakton and West Potomac High School. The tournament will last until Friday. The Majors (3-5) will face Grace Bretheren Knights in the first round on Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. Admission per game is $5. The attached pdf has the full tournament schedule.

Volunteers Needed for MVHS PTSA Back-to-School Breakfast

The PTSA is looking for volunteers for the annual breakfast.

Volunteers are needed for the Mount Vernon High School PTSA's Annual Back to School Breakfast for teachers and staff on Monday morning. Volunteers must arrive by 7 a.m. on Monday and will be finished by 8:30 a.m. The PTSA needs the following items: fruit, pastry, bagels, bottled water, juice or donuts. Q&A: Majors Football Preview with Coach Wells

Mount Vernon High School football coach talks goals, new approach to training for the upcoming season.

Mount Vernon High School football coach Barry Wells is about to embark on his third season coaching the Majors, and with that, has taken a new approach to training his players. In his third season of coaching, Coach Wells has found himself with a young team with 15 seniors in the mix. Coach Wells has decided to take some new approaches with his team this year, including not assigning captains for the year, but on a game-by-game basis. "I feel like there's always that chance for complacency when a guy gets selected for the year," Wells said, adding that it gives his seniors something to work hard to earn.
