Last Chance: Get Your George Washington's Rye Whiskey Thursday

The whiskey will retail for $95 per bottle.

The Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens will start selling the unaged George Washington Rye Whiskey at 10 a.m. Thursday. The whiskey was made at George Washington’s reconstructed distillery, and more than 1,100 bottles of the whiskey are available for sale at $95 per bottle. The unaged George Washington Rye Whiskey is the most authentic version of Washington’s whiskey available today. Washington was a detailed record keeper, so Mount Vernon’s staff was able to determine from these records the recipe and process of creating whiskey during Washington’s lifetime, according to a recent press release issued by the Estate. Distillers used the same grain recipe mixed and fermented in 120-gallon oak barrels, and double distilled in copper pot stills …

Mount Vernon Offers Free Admission on Presidents Day

Mount Vernon Estate commemorates George Washington's Birthday Monday.

The Mount Vernon Estate will offer guests free admission on the national observance of George Washington’s birthday on Presidents Day Monday. The estate will host a wreathlaying ceremony at Washington's Tomb at 10 a.m., followed by patriotic music and military performances on the Bowling Green. “General Washington” will be on the grounds to greet visitors and receive birthday wishes all day. Additionally, Mount Vernon will introduce a new character program to George Washington’s birthday celebration this year. The Estate will kick off George Washington’s 281st birthday with a weekend-long celebration. Last Chance: Mount Vernon by Candlelight

Tickets are still available for the popular candlelight tour this weekend.

Get into the holiday spirit this weekend with Christmas carols and a candlelight tour of the Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens. Tickets for the popular Mount Vernon by Candlelight event are still available for Saturday and Sunday night. Visitors can meet a cast of characters from Washington’s life and take an exclusive candlelight tour of the mansion. Following the tour, guests can explore the grounds, lit by candlelight, join in fireside caroling, and enjoy complimentary hot cider and cookies. Tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for children under 12 and can be purchased at MountVernon.org.
