Route 1 Widening Update: Environmental Assessment Complete

The RFP process will begin this week.

The process to widen Route 1 near Fort Belvoir is moving forward. The Environmental Assessment is complete, and an RFP will be sent to selected contractors this week, according to an update released by Fairfax County. The Finding of No Significant Impact was issued on Nov. 20, Fairfax County BRAC Coordinator Laura Miller told Patch. This document is posted on the Federal Highway Administration Eastern Federal Lands Division website, along with the 4(f) determination and the Section 106 Programmatic Agreement. "Issuance of those documents conclude the environmental planning and compliance phase of the project," Miller told Patch in an email. I will move some in May. 2013 to other parts of local Accotink watershed. Im sure Native Americans used this patch as it is right on the old foot path and near some known settlements in area.   more ›

Last Chance: Register for the SFDC Bus Tour

SFDC has added a second bus for the tour.

Spaces are still available for the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (SFDC) multi-family bus tour on Sept. 22. SFDC has added a second bus to the tour due to high demand for the tour. "After recieving more than 50 RSVPs for this event, SFDC has decided to add a second bus to meet the strong demand for this tour," read an email sent by SFDC on Monday. The free tour will take guests through the new The Beacon of Groveton apartments on Richmond Highway. The tour will also visit the Courts at Huntington Station and 800 Carlyle apartment buildings. The tour will take place on Sept. 22 from noon to 4 p.m. Lunch will be provided. RSVPs are due by Sept. 14. To RSVP, email David Ben at david.ben@sfdc.org.

SFDC to Host Free Tour of New Apartments

The bus tour will visit the Beacon of Groveton, the Courts at Huntington Station, and 800 Carlyle.

Residents will have the opportunity to tour three new apartment developments in September during a bus tour led by the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (SFDC). The bus tour will showcase three new apartment developments that have opened in the area during the last three years, according to an SFDC press release. The tour will begin at the new The Beacon of Groveton apartments on Richmond Highway. The tour will also visit the Courts at Huntington Station and 800 Carlyle apartment buildings. SFDC Executive Director David Versel says the tour will show residents these new developments and during the tour, they will discuss why people are moving in to them.
