On Saturday at the Northern Region Championships the Mount Vernon girls track and field team advanced two individuals and one relay to the VHSL AAA State Championship next weekend. Junior Jasmine Hill broke into the top 10 in the United States with her time of 1:15.89, to be ranked tenth in the country. She was the Northern Region runner-up in the 500 meter dash, losing only to the US #1 runner by 2/10ths of a second. This performance set a new school record for a 3rd time so far this season, and ranks her now 3rd in the state of Virginia in the AAA 500 meter dash. The MVHS track team broke three school records.
The Lady Majors Track and Field team had a great day at the Virginia Tech Invitational ths weekend, capping a week that included three school records and a second fastest time in school history. En route to posting the #7 time in the state of Virginia in the 4x400 meter relay, as well as qualifying for the Virginia State Championships and New Balance Indoor National Championships, the team of Kaleigh Winner, Alliyah Stevens, Jasmine Hill and Bria Patnett demolished the old school record with a new time of 4:02.87. Team member Jasmine Hill also set a school record in the 500 meter dash and qualified for the State Championship. This topped her own school record set two weeks ago. Members of the team broke school records, attained personal bests.
The Mount Vernon Majors girls track and field team broke school records and recorded personal bests at the PG Sportsplex during Saturday's Montgomery Invitational. High school track teams from across the D.C. metropolitan area competed in track and field events during the twelfth annual invitational meet. The Majors 4 x 200 meter relay team ran the fastest time by a MVHS relay team in more than a decade, which qualifies the team for a spot in the Northern Region Championships with a rank of 5th place in the region.
