Board of Supervisors to Hear Child Care, Tysons Issues

Fairfax County's Board will hold public hearings on both subjects Tuesday afternoon.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings on further development in Tysons and proposed changes to child care laws during its meeting Tuesday, Nov. 20. Cityline Partners has proposed approximately 19 acres of development that would include office space, a hotel, retail locations and residential buildings south of Westpark Drive and near Westbranch Drive. The proposal – eight buildings as outlined in the plan – would total 2.5 million square feet of development within a half-mile of the Silver Line’s Tysons Corner Metro Station. Board of Supervisors to Hear Environmental, Tysons Issues

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hear a presentation from the Private Sector Energy Task Force Tuesday detailing how the county can begin to become greener and energy efficient. The task force, which is chaired by Leo Schefer, president of the Washington Airports Task Force, is expected to make a series of recommendations to supervisors. The recommendations may include mapping out how the county intends to meet its goal of a carbon-neutral Tysons Corner by 2030. The task froce also support incentives for property owners to invest in sustainable and green improvements to new and existing buildings in the county. ‘Green Development’ Summit Highlights Environmental Benefits

The Southeast Fairfax Development Corp. hosted an information session Saturday.

More than 50 people gathered Saturday in Fort Hunt to learn about how development, when done right, can beneficially impact the environment and create green spaces for public use. The Southeast Fairfax Development Corp. hosted the morning event at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Fort Hunt. The session included four panelists who stressed how “new trends in green development” are providing smarter development that benefits both people and the environment. The county is promoting smart growth with mixes of transportation and transit use and reduced vehicle miles traveled per person, explained speaker Noel Kaplan, a senior environmental planner with the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning.
