Woodlawn Plantation Announces Needlework Exhibition Winners

Woodlawn Plantation recently announced the winners of its 50th Anniversary Needlework Exhibition. The winners are as follows: 50th Anniversary Ribbon, Celebrating Needlework at Woodlawn Eleanor Custis Lewis Award — Best in Show Frank Lloyd Wright Award — Outstanding Original Design Pope‐Leighey Award — Outstanding Miniature Cathleen R. Durkin Award ‐‐ Outstanding Children’s Workshop Entry Emma Matheson Award — Outstanding Work by a Junior Adelaide Bolte Award — Outstanding Senior Entry Judge’s Choice Director’s Choice The People’s Choice Award will be determined by popular vote during the Exhibition. The needlework exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Monday. The show ends on March 31. Daily admission is $10 for …

Woodlawn Needlework Exhibition Celebrates 50 Years

The needlework exhibition starts Friday.

The Woodlawn Needlework Exhibition celebrates 50 years of showcasing the best needlework in the country starting Friday at Woodlawn Plantation. Woodlawn is commemorating the Needlework Exhibition's 50th anniversary with a silent auction called Celebration of Needlework, Woodlawn Visitor Services Manager Meredith Mitchell told Patch. Proceeds from the auction will go towards Woodlawn. "We had several individuals and needlework shops donate needlework, kits, samplers, and a wide selection of books and gifts to the silent auction, and all of the proceeds will go to Woodlawn," Mitchell said. Huntington-Belle Haven Patch: A Hybla Valley woman has been arrested in conjunction with a fatal road rage incident that occurred on May 4. Police have charge Gloria Alfreda McMillan, 32, of Hybla Valley with a felony hit and run that left a 21-year-old woman dead Friday on Harrison Lane in Groveton.  The former owner of Crossed Canoes in Belle View is one of three judges for the 49th Annual Woodlawn Needlework Exhibition, which opens today. Behind the Scenes of the Woodlawn Needlework Exhibition

Judging the exhibition is a rigorous three-day process.

On a muggy, drizzly Wednesday morning in May, twelve women gathered at Woodlawn Plantation to evaluate more than 600 pieces submitted by needlepoint artists across the country. Now in its 49th year, Woodlawn’s annual needlework exhibition will feature hundreds of pieces. Each piece is stitched with a handheld threaded needle. Maggie Bunch of Stafford has been a member of Woodlawn’s needlework auxillary club, Nellie’s Needlers, for 17 years. She has been coordinating the show for the last three years. A petite woman who is passionate about the delicate needle arts, she has a firm hand in making sure the judging process and show run smoothly.
