Metro offers several route suggestions to get to the National Mall, the parade route and to the White House on Inauguration Day.
Whether you are attending the inauguration on the National Mall, taking in the parade along Pennsylvania Avenue or cheering the President's return at the White House, you can expect to do a lot of walking on Inauguration Day. Between metro station closures, parade route street closures and bus route changes, you will be using your own two feet to get you where you want to be once you arrive downtown on Metro. See also: Guide to Taking the Metro to the 2013 Presidential Inauguration. To help, Metro has created a list of walking directions from various locations near to the National Mall area: Arlington Cemetery (1.5 miles to Mall) Walk 0.7 miles toward the Lincoln Memorial (away from Arlington Cemetery). Go around the left side of the …
When is metro running? Which stations are closed? How much will it cost? Patch has you covered.
Inauguration Day 2009 set the all time ridership record for Metro at about 1.54 million trips on rail and bus combined. The rail ridership in 2009 alone was 1.12 million trips. Metro is preparing for a crowded system this year as well, spokesman Dan Stessel told Patch. WMATA estimates 600,000 to 800,000 people will use Metrorail for the 2013 inauguration events. Metro has been working with external partners like the U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Park Police and other agencies involved in inauguration activities to help alleviate some of the crowding that plagued metro during the 2009 inauguration. The transit agency is doing everything it can to communicate with riders about their best routes and about planning ahead to help reduce congestion …

Many hotels in D.C. are booked for the inauguration. Hotels along Richmond Highway have been fielding calls since July.
Hotels along Richmond Highway are preparing for a possible "trickle down effect" for the 2013 Presidential Inauguration. Many hotels already are completely booked in D.C., so customers are setting their sights on hotels in the greater Alexandria area for the Jan. 21 event. Carmen Fierro, general manager of The Quality Inn-Mount Vernon, said calls about room availability started back in July. "We started receiving calls, I would say around July of this year, with inquiries for the time frame," Fierro said. "Then I think they just sat back until the president-elect was in office and once that was done, that's when it really started." Fierro said The Quality Inn doesn't usually see a full house in January unless the weather is bad, but …
