On the article Collingwood Holiday Lights Display Cancelled
Beth Jarvis

ReplyI had the pleasure of interviewing Bill Vaughan for Patch last year. Undoubtedly, he is touched by our community's willingness to offer help with the assembly and disassembly of Collingwood Lights. He knows how much his display means to our community and he, more than anyone, wants to keep the tradition alive. But, I also know he is very particular about how everything is put up and taken down and therefore, may not be receptive to offers of that kind of help. Bill is a self-employed contractor and this year, didn't have the luxury to take the entire month of November off, which is the time required, for his display to be erected. That being said, I think assistance with the operating costs of Collingwood Lights might be a better way for our community to show its support and to keep the tradition of Collingwood Lights alive. Here's the link for those who wish to contribute -- http://www.collingwoodlights.com/index.php?do=videos

On the article Celebrate Oktoberfest at Fort Belvoir

Actually, it's free to attend Fort Belvoir's Oktoberfest. The prices listed reflect the price of wristbands that allow you unlimited rides on the various days. In past years, if you weren't interested in the unlimited ride option, there was also the option to buy tickets piecemeal. I am presuming that will still be the case for this year's fest, too. Lastly, in attendance, will also be many food and craft vendors -- all offering goods and services available for an additional cost.

ReplyIt's the story that never quits. Received an email earlier this morning from Patrick Tisdale with the subject line, "Tremendous Woody catches crabs.". He went onto detail for me a recent mishap Tremendous Woody encountered with two crab traps getting entangled in her propeller shaft. Thankfully, she is no worse for the wear. Nothing, apparently, can keep Tremendous Woody down. ;)

ReplyRichard and David -- Thanks for taking the time to leave comments. Since you're both in the pest control industry, could you possibly give us some tips as to how to avoid bringing bed bugs into our homes in the first place? Are there certain steps we should be taking or particular actions we should be avoiding?

I love your columns, Jean. I always learn something I didn't know. One question, do any of these safeguards/parental controls pertain to Kindles or other e-readers?
