Having spent about 15 years as a citizen volunteer with the MVCCA Environment & Recreation Committee, I've learned a great deal about the challenges ahead for solving our water pollution problems and their relationship to the Richmond Highway corridor in the Mount Vernon and Lee Districts. The Mount Vernon Supervisor gave notice to citizens that there will soon be many changes coming to the highway. Your neighborhood may be lucky enough to weigh in on the impact that nearby development may bring. To know how to best look out for the interest of your community, knowledge is needed to understand how past development has affected communities in order to better safeguard your neighborhoods environmental resources. My blog will relate to the impacts and challenges from development on Richmond Highway. I invite comments, ideas, criticisms and questions from readers. The purpose is for dialogue and hopefully civic arousal and engagement prompting citizens to critically examine proposed changes coming in the future. Hope you will respond and expand upon ideas expressed here.
