ReplyThis news just devastates me. We love the stables and it has been a part of my local landscape all my life. I know the amazing people that run Woodlawn Stables and the National Trust won't find better people to be stewards over the property. I agree that the trust has failed miserably with the care of Woodlawn Plantation and the land that surrounds it. They have turned a blind eye for years and now that it has become a big issue, they don't want to make it better by allowing Woodlawn Stables to stay. I shudder to think what they will do with that land if Cindy Mitchell isn't there to care for it.

ReplyJust to clarify - we did not purchase the building - we only lease it. We wanted to purchase it but did not get to do that this time.

Dave - I am not sure what has made you so cynical. Communities need to rally around their local small businesses and treasure in our community that have been here longer than most of us have been alive.
Progress does not have to destroy a person's livelihood when there is another way that the problem could be solved. We are here to remind the local government that you don't always have to take the easy way to solve problems. There are other ways to fix the Route 1 problem. We could also have better public transportation which would be helpful. There are places all over the world with these problems who aren't bulldozing a treasure simply for progress.
I have seen you leave many negative comments all over Patch and I am sorry that so much of what is written, you don't like. Please, try to not put a damper on what other people consider important. -

It is sad to watch a community rally around a great business like Woodlawn Stables and that it had no impact on having them stay or changing how they would implement widening the road. The community won't support Arcadia if they won't listen to their wants and needs. It is sad - Woodlawn Stables is a great business and even though my girls aren't old enough to ride yet, I have felt the impact of the work that is done there and the change in children who ride there. This situation has made me very upset and angry and I know I am not the only one.
