Back to School Physicals Clinic

Yes,
we are gearing up for our 11th year providing the where with all to carry out
free physicals and immunizations for uninsured children so they can start
school on time. We also provide back to school supplies, backpacks, bike
helmets to promote physical activity and age appropriate books to encourage
reading.

This Back to School Physical Clinic is coordinated under the Mount Vernon Lee
Chamber of Commerce and includes volunteers from West Springfield and Mount
Vernon Rotary Clubs, INOVA Health System, the Partnership for Healthier Kids,
the Fairfax County Health Department, Fort Belvoir, Service Master Clean of
Alexandria and DC along with numerous local businesses. The Clinic, our 11th,
will be held this year at the Fairfax County Government Center Health
Department on August 10, 2013.

We have two objectives in this clinic: To provide free school physicals and
immunizations to uninsured children to ensure they are able to start school on
time, and to connect families to health care services that they may be eligible
to receive.

We appreciate donations of your time or your money (Tax deductible to purchase
supplies, etc.). Whatever you donate, you are assured of the warm feeling of
helping hard working parents insure their children's education, showing these
students that the community does indeed care about their education and their
future, all the while linking your name with a very worthwhile cause.

Volunteers needed for...

Registration: Check to make sure appointment time is met and paperwork is in
order. Pass family along to an appropriate Guide.

Volunteer Registration: Check in volunteers as they arrive and direct them to
the tour.

Guides; We have a special need for multi-lingual individuals who can guide
families through the physicals/immunization process. Each guide I assigned to a
family and provided with a color coded map of the various stations each family
must visit to complete the process. All guides are given a guided tour before
the clinic starts. Soldiers from Ft. Belvoir have been one of our greatest
sources for multi-lingual guides.

Testers: For Vision

Weighers: For height & weight

Directors: To instruct arriving families and make sure traffic flows.

Check-Out: Assist the Health Department nurses by distracting the children as
they go over forms with their parents. They do this primarily by helping the
children pick out a suitable backpack with school supplies.
