Scholarship winner, Madeline Marshall, embodies the MVCCT spirit

Mount Vernon Community Children’s Theatre is a children’s theatre with the primary goal of enhancing the cultural life of the Northern Virginia area by offering a stimulating, creative, and supportive outlet to children and youth, helping them build self confidence and character, while developing self expression, independence, and responsibility.

MVCCT believes in supporting our community.   One of the ways in which we give back to our community is through our annual scholarship program, which is made possible by the continued support of devoted patrons, donors and audience members.

Our 2013 scholarship winner, Madeline Marshall, embodies the spirit of MVCCT and we are extremely proud of her, not only for her theatrical accomplishments, but also of her support to her community and those around her.  Madeline began onstage with MVCCT in the 2006 production of Seussical: The Musical. Since that time Madeline has performed in numerous shows, stage-managed, worked countless hours backstage and has served as a teaching assistant at summer camp. She was most recently seen in the fall 2012 production of Oklahoma! as Ado Annie. Board member Erin White commented on Madeline's contributions, not only to MVCCT but also to her impact on those around her.  “Madi is a perfect example of why MVCCT exists as an organization.  She has not only developed her own talents over her years and involvement with our organization but she has also served as a fantastic role model.  When my son, at 8 years old walked in to his first rehearsal for an MVCCT show, Madi was playing his mother.  She provided him with advice and support from day one through many shows.  Her grace, maturity and confidence are the exact reason that I love for my children to be involved in theatre.”

In the fall Madeline will be attending Temple University in Philadelphia with the intention of pursuing a B.A in Theater Education. Madeline was thrilled to be recognized and told us, “It has been such an amazing honor to be recognized by the company that practically raised me. I can not wait to continue on my journey in theatre education knowing that I have the support of my dear MVCCT family.”

Madeline Marshall is the seventh recipient of MVCCT’s $1,000 scholarship award. Past recipients are Julia Warren, Elizabeth Herbst, Daniel Scalph, Emily Conron, Ilene Gillispie and Rachel Lear.
