Baseball Tryouts, Road Projects At the Plate, School Drive Scores and More

1. 2014 Mount Vernon Patriots Travel Baseball Tryouts — Get your chance to hit the field with the team in tryouts this weekend, including Saturday at 10 a.m.  If interested please visit www.mvpatriots.org and register. If you have any questions please contact mvpatriots@gmail.com.

2. Road Project Review in Public Hearing — Thumbs up for the current road project list in Fairfax County? Do you have other ideas for keeping cars moving on our roads? The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority is looking for the public’s input on upcoming transportation projects proposed for 2014. The public hearing will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the council chambers in the city of Fairfax, 10455 Armstrong Street.

3. UCM Back to School Drive — The deadline is July 31 to donate supplies or cash to the United Community Ministries drive. UCM provided tips on how you can help on Patch.

4. Zombies, Love and Pizza — Fans of author Isaac Marion, best-selling author of zombie love story "Warm Bodies," can visit with the author during a teen event at 7:30-9 p.m. Wednesday at Chantilly Regional Library. There's also a pizza party and zombie make-up workshop beginning a 5:30 p.m.

5. Children's Science Center — The Sherwood Regional Library hosts a workshop at 10:30 a.m. Monday for kids 6-12 with an experiment they can take home. Registration is full, so check for possible availability before you head out.
